I know GVR is a casino hotel and I know that Nevada allows smoking in casinos. Having given the above caveat, if smoking doesn't bother you, the GVR is a comfortable and friendly place to stay. I marked GVR down to a '3' for cleanliness for not dealing with the stale smoke everywhere. Bottom line, if you are a non-smoker and don't like stale cigarette smoke, don't stay here. In the end we avoided eating at any of the eateries, choosing to go across the road to the smoke-free The District for most meals, which was a shame, because they seemed quite good. Yes, people were smoking as they gambled, but the air handling systems dealt with it. Unfortunately, for the hotel, this initial impression was incorrect we visited numerous other hotels and casinos and found them virtually smoke free. We put it down to the UK's smoking ban having been introduced and our senses being more discerning since last time. It had been a while since we had been back to Nevada but we did not seem to recall it being so bad on any previous visit. For example, after stopping off at the food court for a coffee our clothes smelled so bad we had to get changed. However, the smell of stale cigarette smoke pervades every part of the resort.
